China Launches First Communication Satellite for Laos

China launched a communication satellite developed for Laos on early Saturday morning from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China's Sichuan Province. The satellite, Laos-No. 1, is the first one that China has exported to a country of the Association Of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The satellite was launched at 00:07 and then entered its preset orbit successfully.

Developed by the China Academy of Space Technology (CAST) affiliated to the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, the satellite will serve to provide live television broadcast, wireless broadband access and international communication services in Laos.

The satellite was lifted off via a Long March -3B carrier rocket. It also marked the Long March series' 218th flying into space.
