The return of the Lao National Games

December 16, 2022 - After multiple delays in previous years, the 2022 11th Lao National Games is currently happening, from December 13-22.  This year the event is being hosted in the province of Xiengkhouang.

Hundreds of athletes from 17 provinces, Vientiane prefecture and four government ministries are competing and vying for medals and glory.

Crowds and long lineups of excited fans, cars and motorbikes have been noted throughout Phonsavan, the province's capital city, especially on routes going to sport venues.

Newly formed Lao Gymnastics Federation joins the Asian Gymnastics Union

December 14, 2022 - In what appears to be a newly formed sporting body of perhaps only a year old, the Lao Gymnastics Federation (LGF) has  appeared on the international scene along with its Facebook and Instagram pages.

Lao athletes medal wins at 31st SEA Games

Lao athletes competed and won at the recent 31st SEA games in May 2022 held in Vietnam.  Read on to find out what events they won in. 

For some events, you might be surprised to hear that Lao athletes competed in such sports.  Below is the complete list of medal winners for Laos.

31st SEA Games - Opening Ceremonies

This year's Southeast Asian (SEA) Games were delayed from last year due to COVID-19 but have now begun in earnest starting with the Opening Ceremony on May 12, 2022 in Hanoi, Vietnam.  Go to time marker 27:27 in the video for the actual start of the ceremony.  Let the games begin!

Sunisa Lee - First Lao-Hmong American to compete and win gold at Olympics

History has been made! Sunisa Lee becomes the first Lao-Hmong American to compete in the Olympics and first Lao-Hmong American to win a gold medal. She won the women's all-around gymnastics competition.
