Lao Language: Insects, Bugs, and Related Words written in Lao and English

Story to Share: Bugs Bite, Eat them!

Thinking about my trip to Laos years ago, I have to admit I have quite a few memories that involve insects and bugs.  With its largely untouched natural beauty, I suppose it's only natural that Laos would have such an abundance of bugs.  So here are my funny and weird memories involving insects in Laos, including eating, getting stung by and hit in the face by one of them.

Random insect memories from Laos, in brief.

Funny Lao Food Show - Tasty Map

Two clips from a Lao food show called "Tasty Map".  This is memorable mainly because the host is hilariously funny and goofy, along with their heavy endorsement of Knorr food products.  It's in Lao but has English subtitles as well.

What does LAO mean to you?

What does LAO mean to you?  Randomly, it came up in a conversation one day about what it meant to be Lao or more generally how to describe Laos.  Along the way, it got to alliterations of L.A.O. and L.A.O.S.  Here are a couple of alliterations I came up with.

Awesome Video on Laos - Is It Real?

Little Laos by Joerg Daiber of SpoonFilm.com.  He describes it as a a tilt-shift film.  It gives the impression of a time lapse style movie.  The video makes the scenes look like they're small models filmed by stop motion methods but in fact isn't.  The miniature scenes are really cool looking.  Check out the video below.

Documentary: Bombies: The Secret War

I first saw this years ago and it was the first documentary I ever saw on the uxo issue in Laos.  I'm so happy someone has posted it online.  It's a documentary that was released by Bullfrog Films in 2001 and created by Jack Silberman and Lumiere Productions.  It's on bombies and unexploded ordinance (UXO) in Laos.  It's at times heart wrenching to watch.  I certainly learned a lot from watching this.

Part 1 of 4 shown below from Youtube.

This one below is the full movie from Vimeo.

Documentary - Bomb Harvest

This one is a more recent documentary made by Australian Broadcasting Corp. on uxo's in Laos.  It follows Laith Stevens of MAG International as he works as an unexploded ordinance (UXO) specialist and trainer in Laos.  Also shows how the bombs have affected life in some parts of Laos, its economy, landscape and quality of life.
