Sand stupas

Image:  Sand stupas or patat sai ພະທາດຊາຍ is also another Lao New Year tradition.  They are generally found at temples but are not exclusive to that location alone.  In Vientiane, the sand stupas are seen along the Mekong River where there's a lot of sandy shores.  Traditionally, people place flags on the sand stupas and make wishes.
