We are saddened to hear the news of the passing of Ponpailin "Noi" Kaewduangdee ພອນໄພລິນ "ນ້ອຍ" ແກ້ວດວງດີ, age 44.

Her British husband, Mick Shippen, made the announcement on an Instagram post dated May 13, 2025.  No details on cause of death were disclosed.

Noi was a pioneer in the culinary field in Laos.  Her restaurant, Doi Ka Noi, rose to international fame and hosted guests high and low, from locals to foreigners.

Her voluminously detailed cookbook of 480 pages, entitled "A Child of the Rice Fields", has become the go-to reference source on Lao food.

Her dedication to promoting and preserving Lao cuisine from all regions of Laos will be remembered.  She will be deeply missed by those who knew her closely and from a far.

Thank you, Noi, for all that you did in crafting delicious flavours and joyous memories.  May you rest in peace, satu.
