If you've returned from a visit to Laos and have souvenirs that you're not quite sure how to showcase, here's an idea that could work for you.
A shadowbox frame. These look like picture frames but what's different about them are their depth which allows you to add items with some thickness.
You can buy them at most picture frame stores or at arts and craft stores. Within the frame, they come with different layers of backing. They're a great way to display some of your souvenirs in a more elegant manner.
In my shadowbox I decided to add the following items:
- A Lao textile sash
- A carved Buddha statue
- 2 postcards (one of the Tat Luang in Vientiane and another one showing the interior of a temple from Luangprabang)
- A faux dok champa flower (aka plumeria)
But of course you can use any items that you choose, assuming it can fit within the shadowbox.
Tips:
- You may need to use pins or tape to hold some of the items in place.
- It may be tempting to overstuff the shadowbox but resist that urge. You need some space to be able to close the frame properly and also so that the display itself doesn't appear cluttered.
Comment below and let me know how you like to decorate with Lao items in your own home.
