Formerly called the "Vientiane Book Festival" and after having been on hiatus for 2 years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event has returned as "Book Festival Laos" this year. In fact, even its Lao title in Lao language was changed. It's considered the largest literature event in the country.
It was held last month on November 9-13, 2022 in downtown Vientiane at Vientiane Center. The event brings together book and magazine sellers and publishers from both Laos and Thailand.
There is generally a bigger focus on the younger audience but surely there was something for everyone.
In addition to being able to browse all the different books for sale, there were also contests, performances and volunteers, all of whom were young students from local schools.
As someone who has watched the burgeoning publishing industry continue to grow in Laos, this is one of my favourite events of the year. So happy to see it return!
