How one young man is helping his village make a living and revive an old tradition

Follow along in this profile of Soukmixay "Aloukee" Khounladsuvannavong, who without much textile experience or money, was able to encourage villagers to take up textile weaving and help them earn a living.

This entrepreneurial young man recognized that his village had a traditional and historical connection to weaving but that many women fell out of weaving because they found it difficult to find markets to sell their wares.  He sought to change that.

He initially started with just 1 weaver.  And after almost 2 years several women across 2 villages have now returned to weaving as a way to earn a living through working with Aloukee.

He designs the patterns he thinks will sell well, while the village women apply their talents to do the weaving.  He in turns does some of the sewing to finish the products.  Finally, he finds the market and makes the sales.

A team effort and a way to make money for all involved.

Video is in Lao language.
